La Pachamama began operating in 2006 as a way to bring the things we missed from South America to New Zealand. It is also a way for us to share with our kiwi friends the South American culture. Gaby (Jujuy, Argentina) first visited New Zealand doing volunteer research study of the Maui’s dolphin. She met Daniel (Invercargill, South Island) and together they share a passion for yerba mate drinking and nature.
Initially, La Pachamama was founded to source New Zealand with yerba mate, as it was so hard to find good yerba mate!. Later, their passion for yerba mate evolved into friendships with many people who shared the same interest and experiences. Now, La pachamama is very proud to be the only distributor of organic and sustainablly grown yerba mate brands to New Zealand supporting fair-trade and sustainable agricultural practices. As well as making every effort to keep prices affordable, we promote a healthy way for people to contribute to the conservation of south american forests and improve the livelihood of many South American families through fair trade product sourcing.
For anybody who comes from or has visited South America they will have an appreciation for some of the more subtle differences between our cultures. We believe that these differences should be celebrated and through our friends and partners in the communitty we are always looking or opportunities to share.
